Water does not immediately destroy electronics. Corrosion does — and corrosion starts the moment the liquid makes contact with a powered circuit. The faster you cut the power, the better the outcome.
- Do not turn it on. If it was on when it got wet, do not press any buttons.
- Do not charge it. Charging a wet iPad sends current through corroding traces. This is the fastest way to turn a recoverable board into an irreparable one.
- Do not put it in rice. Rice does nothing for corrosion — it absorbs visible moisture, not the mineral residue depositing on the board.
- Do not use a hair dryer. Heat accelerates oxidation and can warp the chassis or delaminate the display adhesive.
- Turn it face-down, port-down to drain gravity-fed liquid away from the board, then bring or send it to us.

Apple does not offer liquid damage repair — their service is a flat-fee depot replacement (device swap), which costs the same as buying a refurbished unit.
What the repair actually involves
iPad water damage recovery has two stages.
Stage 1 — Ultrasonic cleaning. The iPad is disassembled and the logic board is placed in an ultrasonic bath with isopropyl alcohol. Ultrasonic waves (40 kHz) dislodge mineral deposits, flux residue, and corrosion from between chip pins and trace gaps that are invisible to the naked eye. This typically runs for 20–30 minutes, then the board is rinsed and dried at low temperature.
Stage 2 — Diagnosis and component repair. After cleaning, the board is powered under controlled conditions and faults are identified. Common post-water faults on iPads: charging IC failure, Touch ID failure, cellular baseband failure (on LTE/5G models), and camera or microphone signal loss. Minor corrosion on a capacitor or resistor is resolved by component replacement at the microscope; severe corrosion on an A-series SoC is not repairable (data recovery may still be possible via NAND chip work).
Fresh water vs salt water vs pool water — why it matters
Fresh (tap) water contains minerals but no chloride ions. It corrodes slowly — you have the best recovery odds if you act within 24 hours.
Salt water (sea, ocean) contains sodium chloride. Chloride ions are highly conductive and react aggressively with copper traces on the logic board. Recovery drops to 60–70% even with immediate action. If your iPad went in the sea, rinse the exterior with fresh water immediately (do not let salt dry on the port or speaker grilles) and bring it to us the same day.
Pool water contains chlorine and pH-adjustment chemicals — behaves like diluted salt water for corrosion purposes. Act within 2 hours for the best outcome.
Juice, tea, coffee, fizzy drinks are sugar-acid solutions that leave sticky residue on traces after drying. Sugars accelerate short-circuit formation. These are treated the same as salt water in terms of urgency.

Quick rule of thumb for Dubai 2026: if the repair quote is under 50% of the current trade-in or resale value of your iPad, repair is worthwhile.
- iPad 9 (2021) — trade-in value ~AED 450–600. Repair at AED 450–550 is borderline. If the iPad is more than 3 years old and the battery is also weak, consider replacement.
- iPad mini 6 / 7 — trade-in ~AED 800–1,100. Repair at AED 550–700 is clearly worth it.
- iPad Air M2/M3 — trade-in ~AED 1,400–1,900. Repair at AED 600–800 is worth it.
- iPad Pro M1–M2 — trade-in ~AED 2,000–2,800. Repair at AED 700–1,000 is always worth it.
