The MacBook Air M4 (2025) is a significant redesign: new Sky Blue and Starlight colour options, Sky Blue anodisation throughout the chassis, and a refreshed internal layout compared to the M2/M3 Air. The battery capacities remain 52.6 Wh (13-inch) and 66.5 Wh (15-inch), but the internal placement and connector routing differs from the M2/M3 — this is a different battery module, not a drop-in swap from the M2.
Apple quotes up to 18 hours on the M4 Air 13-inch and 15 hours on the 15-inch, same as M3. However, the M4 chip's 3nm second-generation process is more power-efficient than M3, meaning real-world life closer to 16–18 hours on light tasks. Under sustained workloads, the M4 Air manages heat well passively — still fanless.
M4 Air batteries require BMS firmware re-pair after replacement. The pairing maps the new cell's chemistry profile to the SMC/BMS so macOS can accurately report capacity, cycle count, and safe charge curves.
