Once open, we vacuum the dust, replace the dried-out thermal paste between CPU/GPU and heatsink, swap any compressed thermal pads, and inspect the fan bearing. FAQ
- Fine sand combined with constant AC means dust circulates indoors year-round. iMacs sit on desks and pull air through the bottom intake. Five years of this builds a felt-like mat across the heatsink that no amount of compressed air can clear without opening the machine.
- It rarely works on iMacs. The fins are deep behind the logic board and the dust mat is usually too compacted. You'll move surface dust around but the choke point stays choked. Has to be opened to clean properly.

- On older iMacs the display adhesive is the only delicate part - we've done hundreds and we use the proper Apple-spec strips on reassembly. Risk to the logic board itself is very low.
- Fans almost never need this on M1/M3/M4 because the chip runs cool by design. If yours is loud, it's usually software (a runaway process) - we'll diagnose for free first.
