The truth on MacBook RAM upgrade in Dubai: every Apple Silicon MacBook (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5) has its unified memory soldered onto the SoC package itself. There is no slot, no socket, no upgrade path. The same is true for every MacBook Air from 2013 onwards and every MacBook Pro from 2016 onwards.
What we can upgrade: the 13" and 15" MacBook Pro non-Retina from 2012, and the 13" MacBook Pro Retina 2012 (limited). On those we go up to 16 GB. AED 400 labour plus the cost of the modules. If you have anything newer, we'll tell you to plan around what you bought, and we won't take your money for an impossible job.

FAQ
- Apple integrates the RAM directly into the SoC package - it's not separate chips on a socket, it's silicon dies bonded to the same substrate as the CPU. There is physically no way to upgrade without replacing the entire SoC, which is impossible. Plan capacity at purchase.
- Soldered to the logic board. Even though they're Intel and not Apple Silicon, the RAM chips are surface-mounted on the board itself. Swapping them requires BGA rework on Apple-spec parts that aren't separately sold. Practical answer: no.
- macOS swap to SSD happens automatically when RAM fills, but it's far slower than real RAM and degrades the SSD. Honest answer: there's no good substitute. If you're hitting RAM limits frequently, the upgrade is to a newer Mac with more memory, not to add anything externally.
- Three things in order: (1) check Activity Monitor - sometimes a single runaway app is eating RAM and a restart fixes it. (2) Reduce concurrent apps. (3) If your workflow genuinely needs more, factor that into your next purchase. We can run a free diagnostic to confirm.
- Going from 4GB to 16GB on a 2012 MacBook Pro is one of the biggest perceived performance jumps you can make on that hardware. Combined with an SSD (we offer this too) it makes a 2012 machine genuinely usable for browsing, email, light productivity in 2026.
- Officially no - those are too old for current macOS. We can install OpenCore Legacy Patcher to run modern macOS unofficially. Separate AED 300 service. Or stay on the latest officially-supported macOS for that machine (Big Sur on 2012).
