Intel display facts
What makes the Intel Air screen different
The Intel MacBook Air 13-inch (2018–2020) uses an IPS LCD panel at 2560x1600 resolution and 400 nits — not OLED, not Liquid Retina. This is important for the repair: IPS LCD panels are well-stocked and repair turnaround is same-day in most cases.
The backlight circuit is a separate component from the LCD panel on Intel models. This means a completely dark screen — where you can still see the image dimly under a torch — is often a backlight IC failure, not a panel failure. Backlight repair costs significantly less than a full panel — get a free quote online for the exact price.
Intel Air models from 2018 use a sealed glass-bonded design. The glass cannot be separated from the LCD for a glass-only repair. Full panel replacement is required for cracked screens.
Apple has declared the Intel MacBook Air 2018 obsolete in some markets but MacBook Repair Dubai continues to repair these models. Parts are available and the IPS LCD in these machines is durable and worth repairing.
The 2020 13-inch Intel Air is the last Intel MacBook Air before Apple Silicon. At 5–6 years old it remains a capable machine and screen repair is far more economical than buying a new M2 Air — get a free quote online for a same-day repair.
Common issues
MacBook Air Intel display faults we repair
Dark screen with dim image visible under torchlight
This is classic backlight failure, not a panel fault. The Intel Air has a separate backlight IC that fails independently of the LCD. Backlight repair is same-day and costs far less than a full panel — get a free quote online for the exact price. We diagnose this for free in 15 minutes before recommending any repair.
Cracked IPS LCD after a drop
The 2018–2020 Intel 13-inch uses a bonded glass-and-LCD assembly. Full panel replacement is same-day — get a free quote online for the exact price. We carry in-stock panels for all three years so no waiting for parts.
Hinge seized causing corner crack
The Intel Air's hinge can stiffen in Dubai's dry climate. A stiff hinge forces the lid corner against the chassis when closing, cracking the display glass at the corner. We replace the hinge and panel together with an all-in quoted price.
Screen flickering or lines at different lid angles
Flickering that changes with hinge angle is the display flex cable working loose inside the hinge barrel — a cable fault, not a panel fault. Cable repair saves the cost of a full panel — get a free quote online for the exact price. Free 15-minute bench test confirms.
Pink, green or yellow tint across the display
A colour tint across the entire screen points to a loose or oxidised eDP connector on Intel Air models. We reseat the connector first, which clears the tint in about 30 percent of cases at no charge. The rest require a cable or panel swap.
Screen completely black, no image under torchlight
When there is no image at all under a torch, the panel itself has failed rather than just the backlight. Full IPS LCD panel replacement, same-day — get a free quote online for the exact price. Free diagnosis confirms panel vs logic board before any repair is started.

FAQ
MacBook Air Intel screen repair — questions
Chip-specific answers before you book.
- MacBook Air Intel 13-inch (2018–2020) screen repair at MacBook Repair Dubai includes the IPS LCD panel, labour, and a 15-day warranty. If the fault is the backlight rather than the panel, backlight repair costs considerably less. Get a free quote online for today's exact price on your model — free diagnosis on the bench confirms which applies.
- Apple has declared the MacBook Air Intel 2018 and 2019 as obsolete in most markets, meaning Apple Store Dubai and Authorised Service Providers will not accept them for repair. MacBook Repair Dubai continues to service all Intel Air models from 2018 to 2020. Parts are available and repair is economical.
- If the keyboard backlight is on and the laptop is running but the screen is dark, it is a display circuit fault. On Intel Air models this is often the backlight IC rather than the LCD panel. Check by shining a torch at an angle on the screen — if you can see a very dim image, the backlight has failed, which is a lower-cost repair. No image under torchlight means a full panel replacement. Get a free quote online for the exact price on your model.
- A screen repair costs a fraction of a new MacBook Air M2, so repair is very cost-effective if the rest of the machine works well — get a free quote online for the exact price. The 2020 Intel Air still runs macOS Sonoma and will receive macOS updates until at least 2026–2027. The 2018 and 2019 models are approaching the end of software support but remain usable for many tasks.
- Same-day service at MacBook Repair Dubai when the panel is in stock. We carry IPS LCD panels for the 2018, 2019, and 2020 Intel 13-inch Air. Drop off before 11am and collect by 4pm.
- Yes, on Intel Air models the backlight circuit is a separate board component from the IPS LCD panel. If your screen is completely dark but shows a dim image under a torch, we repair or replace the backlight IC — a lower-cost fix — without touching the LCD panel.
