Why iPhone 17 parts cost more (so far)
The iPhone 17 line launched September 2025 - six months ago at the time of writing. New Apple parts always run a 15-25% premium over the equivalent year-old part because of three things: the panel/sensor supply chain hasn't reached scale yet, Apple's authorised channels get most of the early stock, and the design is new enough that grey-market sellers haven't reached economies of scale either. The same pattern happened in 2023 when the iPhone 15 launched - by April 2024, prices had stabilised roughly 10% above the iPhone 14 line, and they've stayed there.
Expect iPhone 17 repair costs to drop another 5-10% by September 2026 when the iPhone 18 launches and the 17 line moves into "current - not flagship" status.
iPhone 15 USB-C vs iPhone 17 USB-C - port repair cost
Same job, same price (AED 400). The USB-C connector design is essentially identical across iPhone 15, 16, and 17. The connector itself is a board-soldered Apple-spec part (slightly different pinout than commodity USB-C). Wear on the iPhone 15 ports has been slightly higher than expected - the first-generation iPhone USB-C connector has a shallower retention spec than later revisions. We see a higher rate of "USB-C wobble" jobs on iPhone 15 than on 16/17. Expect this to be a smaller issue on 17 going forward.
Aluminium unibody (17 Pro) vs titanium (15 Pro) - frame repair
Apple switched the Pro line back to aluminium for the iPhone 17 Pro after two years of titanium (15 Pro / 16 Pro). Aluminium is softer - it dents more easily but is also faster and cheaper to straighten or polish. Titanium dents less but when it does, you cannot really straighten it the way you can with aluminium; we usually have to mechanically reshape with a frame jig (AED 350 vs AED 200 on aluminium). Net: 15 Pro owners report fewer dents but pay more when one happens. 17 Pro owners get more dents but cheaper fixes.
Vapor chamber cooling repair (17 Pro / Pro Max only)
The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are the first iPhones with an internal vapor chamber for sustained gaming and 4K video performance. The chamber is a thin sealed copper envelope with a wicking medium that moves heat from the SoC to the rear glass for dissipation. When you crack the back glass on a 17 Pro, the vapor chamber sits 1mm behind it and must not be punctured during repair. Our laser back-glass process doesn't touch it. If the chamber itself is damaged (rare - usually drop-related), we replace the assembly for AED 350 plus the regular back-glass cost.
Should I upgrade my iPhone 15 - or repair it?
Practical answer: in April 2026, the iPhone 15 (AED ~2,200 used in Dubai) is still a very capable phone. A AED 400 battery + AED 750 screen repair is AED 1,150 - half the replacement cost of the same phone, less than a quarter of a new iPhone 17. The iPhone 17 brings: a brighter OLED, the new A19 chip (~25% faster), the ProMotion display refresh rate (Pro models only, was already on 15 Pro), and slightly better battery life. None of those are repair-cost differences.
If your 15 has multiple issues at once (cracked screen and failing batteryand a wobbly USB-C port) - the math gets closer. AED 1,550 of repairs vs a AED 3,599 new iPhone 17. Still repair, but the gap closes. Three-issue iPhone 15 Pro Max with cracked back glass - that's AED 2,300 of repairs against a AED 5,499 17 Pro Max. We'd still repair, but it's a real conversation.

Frequently asked questions
- Yes - about 15-25% more on parts that involve new components (screen, vapor chamber, telephoto camera). Battery and USB-C are within AED 50. Expect this to narrow over the next 6-12 months as parts supply matures.
- It sits 1mm behind the rear glass on Pro and Pro Max. Cheap back-glass repair (without proper laser separation) risks puncturing it. Cost to replace if damaged: AED 350 plus the normal back glass job. Use a workshop with the right equipment.
- Yes - titanium does not bend back the way aluminium does. A dent in 15 Pro / 16 Pro titanium often needs a mechanical jig to reshape (AED 350). The same dent in 17 Pro aluminium can usually be polished or pressed back for AED 200.
- It's more likely than on the 16 or 17 - first-gen Apple USB-C had a slightly shallower retention spec. We see iPhone 15 port-wobble cases at about double the rate of 16/17. AED 400 to replace, same-day.
- Repair, almost always. A AED 1,000 repair on an iPhone 15 leaves you with a AED 2,200+ phone for two more years of comfortable use. A new iPhone 17 is AED 3,599+. The math only changes if you have three or more major issues at once.
