How to check if your iPhone needs a new battery
Open Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging. You're looking at three things:
- Maximum Capacity - the percentage of factory capacity. Below 80% Apple itself recommends replacement.
- Peak Performance Capability - if iOS has applied throttling, this section will say so explicitly.
- Cycle Count (iPhone 15 onward) - Apple-rated for 1,000 cycles. Above 800, expect noticeable shrink.
If iOS shows the orange "Service Recommended" banner, that's the system telling you the battery's discharge curve is misbehaving. Replace it.
The 80% rule, explained
Apple's official position is that an iPhone battery is designed to retain "up to 80% of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles" (older models) or 1,000 cycles (iPhone 15 and newer). At 80%, you'll notice it. Phone dies by 7pm instead of 11pm. Camera flash takes a beat to recharge. Spotify cuts out when GPS is also running.
The 80% number is also a warranty trigger. If you're inside the original 1-year Apple warranty (or AppleCare+) and your battery is below 80%, Apple replaces it free. We check this for you at intake - no point paying us if Apple owes you a free fix.
Why iPhone 15+ batteries cost more (lithium chemistry change)
Apple changed battery chemistry on the iPhone 15 line to a higher-density formulation that holds more milliamp-hours per gram. The trade-off was a more expensive cell and a tighter manufacturing tolerance - wholesale cost is roughly 35% higher than the old iPhone 14 chemistry. The iPhone 16 and 17 lines continue the same chemistry, with the iPhone Air and 17 Pro adding stacked-cell construction for more capacity in less volume. That stacking adds AED 50 to wholesale, which we pass through.
Apple Store battery cost vs ours
Apple charges AED 359 for older iPhone batteries (6 through 11) and AED 459 for the 12 through 14 line. The 15 onward jumped to AED 549-699. Our pricing sits AED 100-250 below Apple at every tier. We use the same chemistry, same capacity, same cycle rating - just sourced through OEM-equivalent supply rather than Apple's branded supply.
Genuine Apple battery vs quality alternative
Three options:
- Genuine Apple service-stock battery (+AED 200 over our base price). True "Genuine Apple Battery" message in Settings. Required if you want absolutely no asterisk in the Battery Health screen.
- Quality OEM-equivalent - same cell chemistry, same capacity (within 1%), branded "third-party" in Settings. This is our default and what we recommend.
- Cheap aftermarket - we don't sell these. They lose 20% capacity in the first 100 cycles and have caused fires. Avoid the AED 100 batteries from Naif.
Same-day battery replacement - what's possible
We carry stock of every iPhone battery from the 8 through the 17 Pro Max. WhatsApp us before 1pm and you get the phone back the same evening. iPhone 6/6s - usually next morning because we don't keep them in daily stock anymore. Free pickup across Dubai mainland; bring ID for collection.

- Yes - and you should not delay. Swollen batteries push the screen up from inside and risk thermal runaway. We discharge the cell, remove it under controlled conditions, and dispose of it through a Dubai-licensed e-waste channel. AED 50 surcharge on a swollen cell.
- No. Your data is untouched. The phone restarts during install, but no settings, photos, or apps are lost. We don't need your passcode. Always back up first as standard precaution.
